In 2014, the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) in the Bahamas faced a major health and safety concern when an entire surgical operation department was closed due to severe mold infestation. Opposition Leader Dr. Hubert Minnis highlighted the respiratory issues suffered by patients, nurses, and staff working in the mold-contaminated area. The ongoing strike by nurses and the lack of proper facility utilization, such as the unfinished Critical Care Block, further exacerbated the problem. Dr. Minnis called for immediate action to relocate staff to a safer, mold-free environment, stressing the risks of compromising patient and staff health due to inadequate infrastructure and maintenance.
